An Artist’s Guide to The Model & Talent Industry

Sole Representation

Back to menu

If an agency is ‘sole rep’, this in simple terms means that they will solely represent you and you cannot be with another agency. It also means that you cannot undertake any form of paid work by another means and that you must always be available for work with them.

I have toyed with the idea of changing to sole rep many times but have refrained from doing so for many reasons.

Mainly, most of our children join us as babies, or toddlers. They then go on to gain experience in the industry as a direct result of being with us, and then as they get older the parent may want to join them with a dance, drama, or singing class to expand their skills. Many schools that supply such training will have an agency attached and this would mean that to pursue their love for that skill, they would have to leave our agency. The same applies to adults.

Bizzy Agency are not a sole rep agency for this reason, however, due to client conflict and the need to know when an artists/model is available, we prefer applicants who are not with more than 1 other agency.

For a model/artist to appear in let’s say a John Lewis commercial; they cannot have appeared in any competitors campaign for a period of 2-3 yrs (varies). This is called a conflict of interests, and thus demonstrating the need for the agency to always know the full CV of any person represented by them.
